Agoraphobia & Monophobia

Agoraphobia and Monophobia are the natural; responses to perceived threat.

In anxiety disorders, the sufferer is in a constant state of anxious arousal because of perceived, and yet non-existent, threat. This is why the conditions are 'disorders'. They are activated inappropriately because your mind THINKS a threat is present.

Childhood Anxiety

We help children from toddlers to 18 years.

We have home access programs but also a two day childhood anxiety recovery event.

Charles, our CEO, knows what it is to be an anxious child. He experienced OCD, panic attacks, agoraphobia, school-phobia, monophobia, eating disorders, separation anxiety and a massive raft of symptoms and thoughts throughout childhood; but he, like all of us at Linden Tree, understand also how to remove the disorders fast.

Childhood anxiety is actually very simple to overcome... the reason for that is simple, children are neurologically programmed to learn but as they enter adulthood their ability to accept incoming data as absolute truth reduces.

Our focus is on true recovery, not coping strategies or anxiety management.
In anxiety recovery, children tend to make very speedy improvements and these produce such a positive emotional response in the child that they feel compelled to continue and comply. The recovery then snowballs.

Young people are often neglected and abused by inappropriate practice and parents and carers become frightened and disillusioned by the lack of services, support and outcome results experienced at the hands of general practice and mental health services.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

PTSD is a very misunderstood, misdiagnosed and mistreated condition. Psychology overcomplicates the neurology, psychology and psycho-physiology of PTSD.

We commonly associate PTSD with war veterans returning from conflict but PTSD is a manifestation of an anxiety disorder in which a definite 'catalyst' is identifiable. Psychology suggests that the catalyst is the cause of the disorder but, in fact, it is not.

PTSD is only unique amongst the disorders in that there is an identifiable catalyst.

Psychology focuses on identification of the catalyst and utilises therapies which address the catalyst repeatedly in a treatment session structure. Sufferers find that temporary reassurance can be gained from discussion but CBT style therapeutic devices can and will only serve to perpetuate the condition and the memory of the initial catalyst.

Health Anxiety

Health anxiety is experienced as a constant focus on one's health and wellbeing.

Health anxiety sufferers often check themselves for illnesses or ailments. They might check for lumps, bumps or skin anomalies for example. Sufferers might take their pulse, their blood pressure or check blood sugar levels. Often they carry provisions with them, water, blood pressure monitor, blood sugar monitor or other 'medical' equipment.

Health anxiety sufferers worry constantly about symptoms they experience and the potential for illness. They also worry that health practitioners may have 'missed' their ailment or that tests have been lost or mixed up. Health anxiety sufferers rarely focus on the world around them; they are fixated on themselves and there own wellbeing.

Health anxiety is very easily remedied. Removing the core inappropriate fear response removes health anxiety for good. Sufferers are always shocked at the speed of recovery but so grateful for the sudden sense of relief and freedom they experience.

Emetophobia

Emetophobia is an anxious focus on and fear of, vomiting. The sufferer can fear both vomiting or someone else vomit.

Emetophobia is very common in anxiety disorder sufferers and can cause the sufferer to become withdrawn or even housebound agoraphobic in extreme cases.

Emetophobia is often, but not always, accompanied by panic disorder, OCD, agoraphobia, monophobia and other anxiety related conditions. Child emetophobics often have school phobia.

Sufferers often find themselves:

- restricting their interaction with other people in case they vomit
- staying away from school or the workplace
- staying away from babies or young children
- only eating food that they 'trust' (sometimes taking food with them)
- cleansing themselves and not touching items that could carry infection

These are just a few of the behaviours of emetophobics but the catastrophic effect it can have on a person's life and their extended family can carry on indefinitely.

Like all anxiety related phobias, emetophobia can be eliminated quickly and simply, allowing the sufferer to move forward in life without any inappropriate focus on their health or wellbeing.

Derealization & Depersonalization

Derealization and depersonalization are normal, necessary and expected features of an anxiety disorder.

People with DP and DR are often told that they are a separate disorder outside of all other anxiety disorders; but they are not. They are both a very necessary element of the flight or fight response.

DP and DR are often associated with dissociative disorders and psychosis but they are in no way associated with those conditions. Neurologically, DP and DR are generated by the fear response in order to focus the mind on it.

People who activate anxiety disorders due to substance abuse, alcohol, cannabis, LSD etc. often believe and are also often told, that these substances have changed brain processes and that DP and DR are a result of those changes. This is not true.

DP and DR are not permanent. They are not 'disorders'. They are not mental illness.

DP and DR are features of the emotion of fear and when anxiety disorder is eliminated, they deactivate.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

OCD - The most misused term in colloquial speech.

OCD isn't a disorder. Like all other anxiety conditions, OCD is fear gone wrong. Fear is an emotion. Anxiety is a disorder. When a person develops an anxiety disorder, fear becomes locked ON.

OCD is an extreme manifestation of the fear response and more specifically, the 'what if' thoughts created by the mind within that response.

Yes, it's overwhelming, debilitating, frustrating and often perceived as weird, mad or strange but it's 'normal' in that it is the mind's natural response to anything which MIGHT represent risk.

Despite what you may have been told, OCD is not associated with depression. OCD is not a stand-alone condition. OCD can be removed entirely, IF you know how.

By switching off the anxiety that generates OCD, the OCD simply stops. It cannot exist in the absence of a high fear response. (Anxiety)

HOCD - POCD - ROCD - EOCD etc.

HOCD, POCD, ROCD, EOCD... no matter what acronym is applied to these conditions, we will show you how they are all the same thing.

Like the core condition of OCD as described in the last section... these 'disorders' aren't, in fact, disorders at all. They are specific manifestations of anxious fear response.

Your obsessive focus on your sexuality, inappropriate sexual focuses, relationships, religion or existence etc. are not 'phobias' or 'obsessions' at all... they are risk assessments created by the mind in the fight or flight response.

Regardless of the focus subject matter, if you have one of these categories of anxiety conditions, it is entirely created by the underlying anxiety disorder and can be erased quickly without medication or talking therapies.

Fear of Dying

Whilst no one in emotional health should WANT to die, it should not be a constant daily focus. If it is, you have an anxiety disorder.

There should be no constant daily focus on health or mortality - having this unproductive focus can be debilitating and upsetting for the sufferer and everyone around them.

Often starting in childhood, this disorder is associated with coming to terms with death and its meaning; however, constant focus on the subject means not living to full capacity and enjoying the time and experience fully.

When recovery is achieved, whilst mortality doesn't change, the constant focus on it is taken away and ex sufferers go on to live active, positive and happy lives free of the confines of their anxiety disorders.

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are not about FOOD. They are not about 'self-image' or peer pressure. They are about anxiety disorder.

Talking therapy and medication cannot erase or even help reduce the experiences of an eating disorder sufferer. Eating disorders aren't about diet or weight, they are about minimising the fear experienced by sufferers. Talking therapy will increase the sufferer's focus on their condition; whilst sessions may, in the short term, offer some reassurance to the sufferer

In the same way that OCD sufferers might avoid contamination or switch lights on and off to mitigate the risks they perceive, eating disorders do the same with food. The 'risk' is irrelevant however. Whether the person fears, for example, putting on weight is not important and focusing on this as the catalyst for the disorder is both inappropriate and damaging... whilst the sufferer may focus on weight gain, they do so because they have an underlying high anxiety condition that inappropriately focuses on it.

We all know that weight gain may have negative sociological and physiological outcomes, happy overweight people do not catastrophize about their weight issues. Catastrophic thought processes, which give rise to eating disorders, are created by anxiety and anxiety is a disorder.

Self-Harming

Self-harming is a form of risk limitation carried out by anxiety disorder sufferers.

By performing certain, often self-mutilating, compulsions, the sufferer gets temporary relief from their high level symptoms and obsessive thoughts. This process is caused 'safety seeking' and is a vital element of the fight or flight response.

Of course, in anxiety disorders it doesn't have a useful function because no real risk exists, so its presence generates inappropriate responses like self-harming, agoraphobia, OCD and other safety seeking behaviours.

Eating disorder sufferers experience the same effect when controlling food intake or vomiting (in the case of Bulimia).
Self-harming is not associated with suicide. Despite vocalizing thoughts around 'wishing they were dead' anxiety disorder sufferers do not take their own lives; in fact, this is the last thing they would want or do. Sometimes, unfortunately, people fail to regulate their self-harming and have passed away as a result.

Anxious people often describe themselves as 'too scared to live and too scared to die". Whilst being dead would be easier, they do not wish to die.

Self-harming is more about the sensation used as a distraction or a release than it is about wanting to cause damage. Whilst some people have recognised a trend in these behaviours, we recognize strongly that this is not a 'fad' but a general increase in this particular group of anxiety disorders.

Psychology tends to categorize and sub-categorize in a constant cycle designed to control patients, to build on service provision and to maintain jobs within the sector - this in no way changes their inability to create recovery, that is constant.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder

BDM is an anxiety disorder and has nothing at all to do with self-image.

How can this be? A condition which forces you to focus on your own self-image must be about that very thing... but it's not. It is entirely to do with anxiety. Not FEAR... ANXIETY.

You see, anxiety is a disorder of the emotion of fear and when someone develops an anxiety disorder, everything they perceive through their senses appears... different.

Fear responds to risk assessments and in anxiety disorders, everything can be perceived as 'risk'. Light switches, taps, distance from home... anything at all can become an inappropriate focus. In BDM, the person turns that risk assessment on themselves.

We have helped many thousands of people overcome their Body Dysmorphic Disorder, confidence issues, anxiety and any associated symptoms and thoughts.

Monophobia / Fear of Being Alone

Monophobia is the fear of being alone.

Suffering from monophobia means that you experience elevated anxiety when you are left alone or find yourself alone somewhere.

Monophobia sufferers often experience panic attacks, even at just the thought of being left alone in the future. It is a debilitating disorder and sufferers often misread and are mislead about what causes it and how to overcome it.

It is difficult to understand the true cause of monophobia whilst suffering - The true cause of monophobia isn't fear of being alone or what might happen when you are alone, it is just FEAR. You see, anxiety disorder makes you unnecessarily fearful and this turns the sufferer's attention on themselves and their safety.

Anxiety disorder sufferers focus their inappropriate fear on all manner of 'threats', even those that do not exist. Monophobia adds to a person's fear of being alone in the same way as it adds to an OCD sufferer's need to wash their hands repeatedly, for example.

When your anxiety levels are reduced back to normal, which we can achieve very quickly using TLM< your obsessive focus on being alone and any other aspect of your condition, will fall away.

Trichotillomania / Hair Pulling Disorder

Trichotillomania is the anxiety condition which causes the sufferer to obsessively play with and extract their hair.

Trichotillomania sufferers obsessively focus on and feel compelled to pull out (sometimes also shave or wax) hair from their body.

Some people pull hair without realising they are doing so, others do so intentionally.

Trichotillomania sufferers also tend to play with their hair more and have an obsessive focus on brushing it or trying many hairstyles.

Sufferers may focus on head hair, eyelashes or eyebrows, others might focus on body hair; some people concentrate on two or more areas.

Some people might eat or chew the hair they extract, some may hold it against themselves or rub it against their skin. Many Trichotillomania sufferers also bite their nails, chew their lips or pick at their skin, especially around their nails.

Many sufferers cannot explain why the pull their hair but the cause is simple... anxiety disorders cause inappropriate focuses and when this becomes a focus on hair and the 'self' this often results in obsessive, compulsive behaviours that help the sufferer to manage their inappropriate emotions.

The cause is the same in every human, as is the solution. By removing the core high anxiety condition, Trichotillomania, like every other symptom of the disorder, is removed.

The digestive tract is the longest system of internal organs in the body. It starts at the lips and ends at the anus. It is sophisticated, resource hungry and vital to our survival.

In order for the digestive tract to work effectively, many organs and a massive amount of bodily tissues, neurology and chemicals are involved in order to make it work.

Emotional imbalance directly affects the digestive tract. It does so in preparation for emotional responses. When resources are needed elsewhere, the digestive tract is the first non-essential system to be affected and when fear is activated, the digestive system is almost 'switched off' in order to prepare the body to fight or flee from threat.

The immediate results of emotional distress in the digestive tract are - Emptying it to make you lighter (bowel emptying - this includes bladder emptying), slowing down or ceasing of the muscular contractions that move forward through the tract, removal of moisture in order to utilise it in the blood stream and muscles... and many more. These all combine to create pain, wind, bloating, indigestion, increase in acidity, diarrhoea, nausea and many other distressing symptoms often referred to as IBS.

Fear of Fainting or Passing Out

Fear of fainting or passing out is a very common feature in anxiety disorders.

Often, the sufferer has never actually fainted or passed out.

Like fear of being alone, fear of passing out is an inappropriate anxious focus created by the fear response during an anxiety disorder.

Sure, no one WANTS to pass out but this level of focus on the potential to pass out is both inappropriate and unnecessary.

Anxiety is the disorder of the emotion of fear and when anxious, the body is primed to fight or flee, even though it is the case that it sometimes feels like you couldn't if you wanted to. Fear places you in hyper-vigilance, a state of arousal that prepares you to FIGHT or RUN, not pass out!

Fear also slightly raises blood pressure and fainting requires low blood pressure.

Fainting is a good thing when necessary. It protects the body and mind.

How many clients, out of over 200,000 have fainted due to their anxiety? Honestly, none.
